Theatre how it was meant to be experienced

The Globe Theatre, London

A trip to London isn't complete without a visit to Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. A faithful reconstruction of the open-air playhouse first built in 1599, the theatre today pays homage to the great master who worked on this very site, and whose works are performed there to this very day. Defy the elements, and enjoy the theatre in the public stands come what may, the Shakespearian way!

If you're not in London this coming summer, never fear, as the best of Shakespeare's best is making its way to us in the form of the Delaware Shakespeare Festival. This annual outdoor event takes place on the grounds of Rockwood Mansion Park. Are you ready to brave the weather for a chance to indulge in the finest array of Shakespearian verse and masquerade masks this side of the Atlantic? Take our word for it; this is one event that's not Much Ado About Nothing!

Entertaining Delaware since 2003, the Delaware Shakespeare Festival is now regarded as a cultural mainstay of the region. From the very first performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream, to the following year's As You Like It, right up until Romeo and Juliet last year, the festival has been wowing audiences who come as much to marvel at the historical period sexy costumes as they do to eat, drink and be merry. How very Shakespearian!

Want to get involved in the action? The festival is now accepting volunteers for roles as ushers, backstage help or box office attendants. There are also opportunities for those eager for experience as apprentices to the Festival's professional corps of directors, actors and designers, with possible college credit awarded to those who qualify. From small acting roles in the main stage production to understudy roles, from backdrop and props construction to creating costumes and wigs, there are plenty of chances for the whole community to get involved in the magic of the theatrical process.
