The 3rd Annual Victorian Costume Ball in the Carriage House on the Museum grounds will be held from 8 pm to 11 pm with dance instruction at 7 pm. Last year's Ball was attended by people from all over the Delaware Valley region. Costumed ladies and gentlemen sporting attire from the Civil War era through the Edwardian danced the night away to authentic period music provided by String Theory Quartet with dance calling and instruction by Tapestry Historic Dance Ensemble. Light refreshments and a cash bar along with a silent auction added to the event. Cost for the evening is $40 per person. After a day of painting in Chaddsford and the Brandywine Valley, 30 juried artists from mid-Atlantic states return to the Chadds Ford Historical Society's Barn Visitors Center to frame and hang their paintings for a special exhibit and art sale. Saturday, Feb. 2, from 5 p.m. 6 p.m. Preview ticket holders will be treated to a first look and sale of wet paintings, hors d'oeuvres, and wine. The Art Exhibit stays up until March 16, 2013 at the Chadds Ford Historical Society's Barn Visitors Center. For more information please call (610) 388-7376. Over 70 local and regional professional artists from the Brandywine Valley and beyond will display and sell their art in an array of mediums to satisfy every taste and budget. The show's Featured Artist is Stephen Brehm who is known for his deep appreciation for the landscape and seascape. Brehm has received numerous honors for his talents and was featured in Philadelphia Style Magazine. The Donating Artist is Madeleine Kelly, a Brandywine Valley artist whose work can be found throughout the U.S., including a collection at the University of Pennsylvania. Some of Kelly's paintings can be seen on the set of the indie film "The Suspect".

Admission is free. 30% of all purchases are tax deductible. Proceeds are put towards school educational enrichment programs in foreign language, science and the arts. Please click here for further details.

In order to fish in the stream, you need a Pennsylvania fishing license and a Park fly fishing membership. E-mail the Mill at info@newlingristmill.org to request membership information be mailed to you. Fishing privileges in the stream are limited to a list of approved membership numbering no more than 100.
Trout fishing in the Newlin Grist Mill ponds is open weekends March through October from 9AM - 4PM. To fish, you must bring a valid driver's license to register in the office. Fees are $3/person, $3/trout. Bait is available for $1. All trout must be kept and paid for. No releasing.

The Land Conservancy for Southern Chester County

On Saturday, May 12, 2012, The Land Conservancy for Southern Chester County (TLC) will be holding the annual Stateline Loop 9K/5K Trail Race on the Stateline Woods Preserve located at 814 Merrybell Lane, Kennett Square, PA 19348. The trail run traverses two nature preserves and some of the most amazing scenery in southern Chester County. Runners will see first-hand why we strive to protect such beautiful woodlands, meadows, and agricultural lands. The Pennsylvania Hunt Cup is a Timber steeplechase race with a distance of four miles and 22 fences, over fair hunting country. It is a substantial test of both horse and rider, and is one of just three 4-mile steeplechase races sanctioned by the National Steeplechase Association. First run in 1921 over a course in Whitemarsh , PA, the race moved to the present location in Unionville, PA in 1964, where it has been held annually since. Over the years the race meeting has grown so that the race day card now includes three sanctioned timber races, and the Pennsylvania Pony Hunt Cup for children.
