Plein Air (TBA)
The Chadds Ford Historical Society hosts its 11th annual Plein Air art event on February 8th and 9th. Plein Air artists will be painting the Brandywine countryside. A wine and cheese reception with the artists will be held. Admission is $10 per person and can be purchased online or at the event. Paintings will be available for sale.

Polar Plunge (2020 is Cancelled)

10:00 am - 1:00 pm. The Polar Plunge event is hosted by the Brandywine Red Clay Alliance to support their efforts to protect and conserve the natural resources of the Brandywine and Red Clay Valleys. Since 2008, nearly 1,200 people have taken the plunge to raise over $107,700 to protect and conserve our regions natural resources. Participants can register online or may register at the event.

9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Enjoy the wintry beauty of the Brandywine Creek from the Brandywine River Museum's expansive atrium windows. Artists working in all media are invited to explore the vista from inside the Museum where they can sketch, paint, or photograph while staying warm. Participants may also enjoy sketching (with pencil) in the Museum's galleries. Participants are responsible for providing all art materials (including drop cloths).$10 Members; $20 Non-Members. Kennett Area Community Service Annual Empty Bowls Event (Feb. 27, 2020)

"Empty Bowls" is an international, grassroots, crafts-based effort to end hunger. It's mission is to provide nutritional food to over 1,200 individuals in the community each month. Attendees will enjoy a simple meal of soup and salad and leave with a handmade bowl as a reminder of families in need. You will also have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction with over 100 items during both meals. Call 610-925-3556 for more information and tickets.

Red Clay Creek Cleanup (March 28, 2020- 8:00am-12:00pm)
Join the crowd at Ashland Nature Center for the Red Clay Valley Cleanup. This event brings over 500 enthusiastic volunteers together to clear litter from 65 miles of roads and waterways. This fun event is a fantastic opportunity for volunteers of all ages!

Fishing privileges in the stream are limited to fly fishing members for a seasonal fee. The season ends December 31st. All trout must be kept and paid for. No releasing.
In order to fish in the stream, you need a Pennsylvania fishing license and a Park fly fishing membership. E-mail the Mill at info@newlingristmill.org to request membership information be mailed to you. Fishing privileges in the stream are limited to a list of approved membership numbering no more than 100.

Brandywine Hills Point-to-Point Races (April 5, 2020)
The racing and family oriented festivities take place on the rolling countryside of the Brandywine Valley Association's 318-acre Myrick Conservation Center on Route 842 approximately six miles west of West Chester and three miles east of Unionville.

Gardeners can choose from a superb selection of low-maintenance, beautiful native plants that are suitable for sun or shade and all types of landscapes. Natives plants are a great way to "go green" because they are adapted to the local growing conditions and require less water and intensive care in the garden. Many varieties will attract songbirds, hummingbirds and butterflies and are as useful for strengthening the local ecosystem as they are low-maintenance additions to the garden. The Ladybug Music  Festival (July 16-17, 2020)

All female, all fun, all free. The Ladybug Festival is an annual event celebrating women in music. The event was created in 2012 by Gable Music Ventures as a block party for the residents of the 2nd & Loma neighborhood in downtown Wilmington, Delaware.

Benchmark Twilight Cycling Classic(Saturday, August 8, 2020)
An annual professional cycling race in historic West Chester. One hundred professional and USCF licensed cyclist's race 60 laps around a 1 mile downtown circuit at speeds of 35 mph. Racers will jockey for position while navigating narrow streets and tight corners. All the action begins at the intersection of Gay and High Streets, the home of Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant the founding sponsor of the event.

Pennsylvania Hunt Cup (November 1, 2020)

The Pennsylvania Hunt Cup is a Timber steeplechase race with a distance of four miles and 22 fences, over fair hunting country. It is a substantial test of both horse and rider, and is one of just three 4-mile steeplechase races sanctioned by the National Steeplechase Association. First run in 1921 the race moved to Unionville in 1964. Race meeting includes three sanctioned timber races, and the Pennsylvania Pony Hunt Cup for children.
