The fifth annual Hootenanny Hoedown celebrates over 20 years of TLC! The saloon doors open at 5:30 pm and the party doesn't end until them cowboys drop. The Polar Plunge event is hosted by the Brandywine Red Clay Alliance to support their efforts to protect and conserve the natural resources of the Brandywine and Red Clay Valleys. Since 2008, nearly 1,200 people have taken the plunge to raise over $107,700 to protect and conserve our regions natural resources.

Kennett Area Community Service Annual Empty Bowls Event (Thursday, February 23, 2017)

"Empty Bowls" is an international, grassroots, crafts-based effort to end hunger. It's mission is to provide nutritional food to over 1,200 individuals in the community each month. Attendees will enjoy a simple meal of soup and salad and leave with a handmade bowl as a reminder of families in need. You will also have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction with over 100 items during both meals; a live auction featuring a week's vacation in St. Maarten will highlight the dinner event. 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Enjoy the wintry beauty of Brandywine Creek from the Brandywine River Museum's expansive atrium windows. Artists working in all media are invited to explore the vista from inside the museum where they can sketch, paint or photograph, while staying warm. Participants may also enjoy sketching (with pencil) in the Museum's galleries. Participants are responsible for providing all art materials (including drop cloths). $10 Members; $20 Non-Members. Chadds Ford Historical Society's Barn Visitors Center
The Chadds Ford Historical Society hosts its 9th annual Plein Air art event called Paint Out Chadds Ford on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Artists from the Mid-Atlantic region will be painting around the Chadds Ford area as well as at the Barns Brinton House, John Chads House and along Brandywine Creek.

The Society will host a special art exhibition at the CFHS Barn Visitors Center on Saturday evening. From 5 pm to 6 pm we'll host an exclusive preview party for art lovers that want to view and purchase from the best selection of plein air artwork. Tickets are $60 for up to two people ($50 for CFHS members). From 6 pm to 8 pm, we'll host a wine and cheese reception where you can see and purchase the artwork as well as meet the artists. Tickets are $15 per person ($10 for CFHS members).

In order to fish in the stream, you need a Pennsylvania fishing license and a Park fly fishing membership. Fishing privileges in the stream are limited to a list of approved membership numbering no more than 100.

This Gravel Grinder / Gran Fondo will take riders through the scenic country-side and rolling hills of the Brandywine Valley, some of the most unspoiled and historic countryside of the Mid-Atlantic. The full ride is 58 miles (and 4,000 feet of climbing) with over 40% consisting of gravel / mixed surface roads including the famed 1 mile long Hill Top Road climb (10% grade in some sections) and several newly added gravel sections. Hundreds of plant lovers from across the nation plan their calendars around this annual event that is acclaimed for it's premier selection of unusual, newly-introduced or difficult to propagate specimens. 600+ plants donated by more than 100 nurseries and individuals from across the country. Proceeds of this event benefit Delaware Center for Horticulture's Community Greening Program, which uses horticulture to beautify Delaware and to improve the quality of life for residents in urban neighborhoods. The 9th Annual "Hear We Go" 5K Run/Walk portion takes place throughout the beautifully blooming grounds of Nemours Estate, arguably the largest formal French garden in North America. The event concludes with refreshments and an educational fair for families and children on the grounds of Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.

The event aims to raise awareness about the importance of proper and timely diagnosis and management of hearing loss in children in order to facilitate their language development. Proceeds will benefit clinical and research programs at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, related to hearing loss and hearing conservation in children in our community.

Hundreds of authentically-dressed re-enactors will descend upon Birmingham Township, Chester County on Saturday, September 16th and Sunday, September 17th, 2017 to recreate this historic confrontation between British and American soldiers at Sandy Hollow** - the site where the actual September 11, 1777 battle took place. The event is FREE to the public; hours on Saturday are 10 AM to 4 PM, and on Sunday from 10 AM to 3:00 PM; FREE parking is available on the field. The entrance is at Birmingham and New Streets.

During the re-enactment, visitors will witness active cavalry, cannon fire, muskets, rifles, side arms, authentic encampments and military inspections. The battles, scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday will last about 45 minutes to an hour. George Washington,the Marquis de Lafayette, and Alexander Hamilton will be attending.

Visitors will be able to:
  • See a spectacular reenactment of the historical event
  • Tour the American and British camps;
  • Hear the fife and drum corps;
  • Sample period food;
  • Meet authors of period fiction and non-fiction; and

The Pennsylvania Hunt Cup is a Timber steeplechase race with a distance of four miles and 22 fences, over fair hunting country. It is a substantial test of both horse and rider, and is one of just three 4-mile steeplechase races sanctioned by the National Steeplechase Association. First run in 1921 over a course in Whitemarsh , PA, the race moved to the present location in Unionville, PA in 1964, where it has been held annually since.
