CHADDS FORD, PA - February 2, 2007
Brandywine Prime Opened Feb. 1
The Chadds Ford Inn has been renovated by owner/developer Joe Grace of Chadds Ford, PA, under the watchful eye of the Chadds Ford Historical Society and with input from Dan Butler, owner of Deep Blue and Toscana in Wilmington, two of the town's most popular restaurants. Dan is

running the Brandywine Prime, Seafood & Chops at the Chadds Ford Inn, the official name. I shortened it to Brandywine Prime, as I suspect most people will, or maybe just The Prime. They both have kind of a nice ring...

The Prime seats over 200. The main dining room on the ground floor has been opened up and enlarged as has the bar that will include a raw bar when finished. The second and third floor dining rooms have also been opened up with two-story ceilings where possible, sliding glass doors where they can be used. "We will be adding murals and uplighting on the second floor which has exposed beams and other architectural features designed to draw patrons upstairs," Butler said in an on-site interview during construction.

The chef at The Prime is Keith Rudolf who came to Dan's Deep Blue restaurant by way of Perrier in Philadelphia. Beef, on display in an aging room near the kitchen, will be supplied by Joe Grace from his farm.

The one-time Antique Shop next door (Ancient of Days), is also being renovated, and will be a Café also operated by Butler. It will seat 60 or so and serve salads, pasta and pizza from a wood burning oven. There will also be take-out and a bakery. Sound familiar? Could be a country version of Toscanas. The plan is to open it after The Prime. We walked inside... the space will be spectacular with exposed beams, stone walls and a very high ceiling.
