Cromwell's Tavern in Greenville's Powder Mill Square has changed its name to Cromwell's American Tavern & Taqueria. A bold move, but one that owner Pat Nilon, said made perfect sense given the popularity of his weekly Authentic Mexican night.
Now, added to their American comfort food menu are 18 Mexican dishes including burritos, tacos, quesadillas, sopes, taquitos, enchiladas and fajitas, many with your choice of 2-4 options like chicken, ground beef, pork, shrimp, etc. Taco and fajita salads have further expanded an already-famous salad menu (named "Best Salads" in 2003 in Best of Delaware), and pork green chili joins Guinness beef stew and crab and corn chowder as year-round, every day soups. After 4pm, the dinner menu includes Carnitas, Chile Rellenos, Tomatillo Chicken, Snapper Veracruz, and Camarones a la Ajillo.
"Sometimes you want enchiladas and a top shelf margarita, and your better half wants a world-class burger and a robust Malbec; and you both want spicy buffalo chicken winglets. Now, you don't have to compromise." says Nilon. We thought he had something there so we decided to put his Mexican flavors to the test.
We went for a lunch and ordered a chicken burrito and a chicken fajita. Having had Mexican food at the authentic-as-it-gets Taqueria Moroleòn of Kennett Square... now Avondale, Kid Shelleen's and Michoacana Grill in Kennett among others, we had some flavor histories for comparison. Let me tell you, they did not disappoint. Both dishes tasted authentic and were thoroughly enjoyed. We even asked for a bit more Guac for the fajita and got a serving at no extra charge. We've been charged up to $3 in other restaurants. It's great to know that when you're in the mood for Mexican and you're the only one, Cromwell's American Tavern & Taqueria can make everyone happy... Good move!!
Cromwell's American Tavern & Taqueria is open 7 days a week for lunch, dinner and late night.
